whats wrong with cinderella?
Ever since the creation of men and women, men have always been the superior, the ones to have the job, make the money and be the head of a household. It was not until the last 100 years that women started to fight and claw their way up this ladder of superiority, looking to acquire a spot of equality with men. Today more women then men attend college, and many woman are taking over high power jobs that had at one time been impossible for women to even think of attaining. Now because of these accomplishments the idea of femininity is growing to be something that is looked down upon, many times even criticized. A women who wears dresses all of the time, belongs to a sorority or even just enjoys having glossy nails and wearing heels are looked at as brining down our gender. Giving into the male agenda, creating a person that is acceptable to their standards. What I do not understand is when did this switch in thinking occur? Why is it that just because a person is girly, or likes to play with Barbie dolls that she is less of a person, that this decision automatically means that she will not be a high powered lawyer. Just because a little girl loves to watch the Disney Princesses, and likes to dress up like them does not mean that she will grow up to be an airhead with no life goals other to marry a husband. Is it impossible for her to like these things, but to still grow up to do whatever she wants, whether it is to teach, be a lawyer or even a fire person. Why does what she grows up to be change just because she loves to play baseball instead of playing with dolls? Is that not giving into the male persona, declaring that only when girls do what boys do that they will have the stamina and will power to grow up and hold a position once restricted to men. Little girls should be able to run around pretending to be a princess and not automatically be judged as someone who only wants to get married and have kids, that maybe they will have a career. It is when this day comes that true equality will be achieved.

mixed race
Race relations in the United States has always been an issue, ever present is the line of awkwardness. Constantly having to watch what you say, how you act, or even being judged solely on the way you look. Ever present in the country is an automatic animosity towards people of a different race, many times cultured through the hatred views of the parents/guardians. In the United Stated the main cultures that seem to not be able to put aside their ingrained hatred are blacks and whites. It seems that every race views race as a sorta of gang, you need to stick with your gang, talking to the other gang is viewed as a betrayal. These views are then passed down onto subsequent generations, constantly prolonging something that we all hope will end one day. In the last forty years, we have come a long way, integrating schools, and slowly slimming down the bold line that seems to always separate us from one another. Then their are people of mixed races, not knowing which side to be apart of, wondering which one is more like the person they are. The question is, why do they have to chose? Who says that the side they pick defines who they are? Even in the upcoming election, it was reported that allot of black people were not voting for him, because he was not black enough. They were not trustful of him because he had a white mother, how does the color of his mother change the his views and beliefs, shouldn't the population vote for a candidate cause they agree for what they stand for. America is a melting pot, every single one of us has a multitude of different cultures in their background. I know for me I am English, Irish and Ukrainian, and i am immensely proud of all of them. It should not change the way people look at these cultures just because the skin color changes.

Cultral renaissance or cultural divide?
When looking at the 21 first century, it is not all that it was projected to be. When this era was eluded to there were supposed to be flying cars, robot maids and self cleaning houses. Yet when you look around life is pretty much as it always has been since the early 1900's, except when you look at the subtle differences. Most people walking around have Ipods in their ears, they are carrying a laptop, or maybe something as simple as texting while walking to class. All these differences mark a change in a generation, one based around technology and its advantages to the human race. Movies have really moved up in the ranks, creating films with computer graphics, making a once impossible scene, one that is not only entirely possible, but more safe for the actors involved. Television has also made this leap, going from basic cable of maybe six channels to having over six hundred different channels all different varities, whether it is sports, movies or shows, everything is now available. Then there comes the Ipod, a hand held device that allows anyone to put any music they chose on the portable device, also giving them the ability to take it wherever the go. Now many people might look at all these changes and believe that we are eliminating the possibility for smaller, unknown artist to get there talents seen, or heard to the masses. While in reality this cultural renaissance is actually a benefit to many of these types of artists. These artists may have trouble getting their things on the big screen or on the radio, but with the invention and huge boom of the internet anything can be seen or heard. An artist could take their work and post it on youtube.com, making it available to the masses, and even create a following just from the people who viewed it. There could be such a boom about a song or a clip that it could get the attention of bigger buissnesses like Universal or Disney. Which is why I believe that these changes are a cultural renaissance, one that helps the masses and looks bright for the future.
